Signal87 is a web directory built in the tradition of a geographic gazetteer — a systematic record of stations, each logged by sector and held in the index for straightforward reference.
The directory was established to provide a neutral, browsable catalogue of websites across a wide range of fields. Where a traditional gazetteer surveys towns, rivers, and landmarks, Signal87 surveys the digital landscape: 830 entries across 22 defined sectors, from financial services and medical providers to travel, computing, and general interest.
Each entry in Signal87 is submitted by the site operator and reviewed before being entered into the record. The index contains no paid placements and no promoted listings. Every station is recorded on the same terms and appears in the same format, regardless of the size or commercial standing of the operator.
Submission to Signal87 is free of charge. The review process is straightforward: an operator submits a URL, selects the appropriate sector, and provides a brief description. Approved entries are added to the index and remain in the directory without ongoing fees or renewal requirements.
Signal87 does not rank or rate the sites it indexes. The directory is a reference instrument, not a recommendation engine. Visitors use it to locate sites within a given sector; operators use it to establish a record of their station in a well-maintained index. The index is updated on a rolling basis as new submissions are reviewed and approved.
